I lived with someone who was a flat-earther. So yes I do think there are some strong arguments to just skip straight to "just shut up you space brained dingus" Granted that's somewhat the fault of social media more than the movement itself but it's not all just some abstract parlour game like "who's the best NFL team" The reason it shouldn't be ignored is because it's a gateway into eugenics and other pseudoscience that's a lot more actively harmful to others when it leaks into politics (e.g see Cosmic fascism). You can't reason it out in debates as countless attempts have shown because the scientists are all involved in the cover up and anyone arguing against flatearthism is on the side of the scientists and their puppet masters. Flatearthism is an anti intellectual movement. Kids can be and sometimes want to be educated. It takes lots of patience and time.Īgain these aren't kids this is a dogma held by adults. You also realize kids are delusional, but we still make an effort to educate them. And it's been a stupid theory for much longer than 100 years even before we spent people into space and had them fly round the world and measure things with lasers. There are no good ideas coming from this line of thought. This isn't a theory attempting to fill an unknown knowledge gap it's the opposite of all inductive and deductive evidence that we have. The difference is we aren't going to get 100 years into the future and discover the earth is flat. You do realize that our current state-of-the-art understanding of the Universe is delusional by the standards of 100 years from now, right?
